So, let’s take a look at cost….

Cost of what?

Well, if you have been following my blog, you know that I’m constructing a New Green House to use this winter, and for many years to come. I have gone from a 12 foot wide by 10 feet long, to a 12 foot wide by 25 feet long new green house with new cover.

So what has been the cost so far?

  1. Sweat labor hours so far, 50, that equals in dollars, $600.00 at $12.00 per hour wage.
  2. Block, total of 72 Block and 14 brick, FREE, Thanks again Hagerstown Block!
  3. Hardware, screws, nails, brackets, cost so far $3.75
  4. Mortar for Brick and Block Wall, $8.00
  5. PVC from yard sales, FREE, the man gave it to me after talking with him and telling him what I was doing.
  6. Lumber to build frame, FREE, from Local Distribution Center, wife works there.
  7. Green House Plastic, had to purchase, this is a 4 year, clear, 4mil plastic, cost $78.00

So if you add all that up, for my new green house, the total for a 12 foot by 25 foot New Green House is, $689.75 Total!

If you were to purchase this Green House from a company, you would pay, $2500.00 Dollars, by doing this myself I saved $1810.25. It took about 4 weeks so far to dig, lay brick, and do the work I had to so far.

This is my Fresh Concrete wall, after 3 weeks of digging out the Clay to get to my 3 feet down, wow, what a job!

Today I plan to install the Timbers of the back wall and connect that wall to the existing frame of the old Green House.

So if you want to build your own Green House, YOU CAN! Get on the WWW and look at what needs to be done. I will be sharing more about this project with all of you later.

Still to come, Solar Heat using a Tin Can Solar Panel, I started building this last week.

Still need to do, Get Stone for the Green House Floor, hope to get that for Free as well from a local stone producer, I will approach that company this week and let you know how it goes, I Think, that I can tell them what I’m doing and they will be generous and give me a Truck Load for the project, know one of the managers, I hope he remembers me, I’ve purchased a lot of stone from them for other projects that I’ve done for others in the area.

So stay tuned and leave any questions in the reply area. By the way I’m Still in need of a Wood Stove, anyone?

Well it’s finally here, The day I’ll be laying the brick for the walls on my new extension to my Green House.

Yea, I’m a week late, however, I had a Large root to move and a Lot of Clay to dig out. It was suppose to be easy for the Mole Man, but, that dry heat baked the clay into a large Brick Type Dirt. But it’s gone now and I’m on my way.

I want to Thank everyone who has been supportive of this project, mostly my wife since I’ve not kept up with my House chores. You know guys, laundry, sweeping, Painting walls, cooking and such. After all she works, I sit at home eating bonbon’s and watching soaps on TV. LOL

I have a large amount of block, different colors, but who cares, when it’s Free you can’t complain. I will ask the company I get the block from if I can list them on my Blog, I wouldn’t want to ruin a good thing, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind some free advertising, they are a great group of people, as long as you respect their speed limit on their property and don’t still the good stuff. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know.

So I’m still looking for that Wood Stove, no one as offered any suggestions where I can pick one up in the western Maryland area for cheep, if you know of one, Please let me know in the comments. I would really appreciate it, and if you live close I’ll even get you some fresh veggies this winter out of my Green House.

So Stay tuned and Follow Me to see how this project is going.
